Hello there! Happy Friday!

Five Things Friday

And happy Five Things Friday Wink Thank you to Clare for hosting!

Jumping right into things today:

5 Things I Ate Recently:

1. Perch dinner complete with rice, corn, baked potato, and a salad and roll on the side.

Perch Last Friday Eric’s mom took us to her favourite diner, which was fabulous – cannot go wrong with diner food! And portion size is definitely a deal – so.much.food.

2. Mini Salsa Turkey Meatloaf  (recipe here) with kabocha and salad.

Meatloaves Sunday’s dinner…definitely delicious.

3. Simply Whey Banana Butterscotch bar.

Simply Whey I spotted this at the health food store a few weeks ago and wanted to test it out. It’s pretty good, but I didn’t really get a lot of banana flavour. When it comes to Simply bars, Apple Cinnamon and Mint Chocolate still win out for me.

4. Almost empty container of spinach with quinoa, buffalo tofu, pulled pork, green beans, sweet potato and hummus.

Salad Now that’s a clean-out-the-fridge lunch if I ever saw one.

5. Grilled cheese with ketchup and a side salad.

Grilled Cheese Grilled cheese will always be my favourite sandwich. Always. Although if I’m being honest, I ran out of cheese so this wasn’t quite cheese-y enough for me.

5 Things Happening this Week.

1. So we all know how much I adore eggs, but I think I may have actually given myself a slight intolerance to them. At the beginning of the week, I had my usual oatmeal and eggs breakfast, only to feel really, really nauseous all while I was eating. It happened again with a  different carton of eggs, so I know it wasn’t a bad batch. I didn’t eat eggs for a few days, but then tried again yesterday morning. My stomach felt a little off but no nausea – so I’m hoping that switching to not eating them every day will solve the issue. Because not being able to eat eggs = sadface.

2. Sooo instead of eggs, I tried to make a smoothie for breakfast Wednesday morning. And my blender wouldn’t turn on…I guess I blew the motor last time I used it. Anyone have any recommendations for a cheap blender? (like $50 or less…I know everyone loves their Vitamix but that’s not in the cards right now).

3. And just to keep going on the breakfast thing, the Hershey’s Kiss I had after breakfast the other day was not an isolated incidence. Lately, I’ve been craving my daily chocolate fix after breakfast instead of after dinner. Is that weird?

Chocolate 4. I’ve been subscribing to Cosmo for years, and I’m the first to admit that it’s fluff reading material. But lately I’ve been impressed with the magazine and it’s willingness to present some un-traditional topics that I wouldn’t expect to see in mainstream fashion magazine. It still has all the fashion and ‘fluff’ stuff, but I’ve actually felt informed reading it lately, which I can appreciate.

Of course, with those headlines you would never actually guess there’s some articles of substance in there…

5. I kind of really want this chair.

Costco Chair Better than just plopping your Swiss ball on the floor, right?.

  1. There is a great solution to your chocolate cravings after breakfast… Chocolate Oatmeal! You could even use a Cadburry Egg if you miss your oatmeal and egg Ha ha.

  2. I gave myself an intolerance to apples for a while AND carrots. I ate too many so my hands and feet turned orange LOL. Oh well!

I also usually eat something after breakfast. Usually a couple of figs or dates just cuz I crave carbs like no other in the morning, and plus they are just too delicious to pass up

    Have a great day!

  3. That chair has been sitting in my amazon cart since the beginning on January. I already sit on an exercise ball IF I sit at work but I love the idea of helping keep me up right with the back!

  4. Love Love Love that last quote. I am thinking about subscribing to cosmo because it’s so much cheaper. I like looking at the fashion.

  5. So you probably already know my stance on the dessert after breakfast deal… and I fully blame the holidays for that one. But the birthday cake is gone! So maybe things’ll go back to normal. Or maybe not. The sweet teeth… they’ve been very loud

Ohh the food intolerances. I gave myself one to oatmeal a couple years back since I was having it sometime 3 times a day. I took a good year off from it and now I don’t seem to have any issues, but I’m still making a conscious effort to keep my servings reasonable.

  6. Such a bummer about the egg intolerance! I hope that goes away for you seeing as you love eggs so much. I’ve had things like that happen to me as well. Basically, I’ll just stay away from that food for a while, then slowly introduce it back into my diet after I give my body a break, then I seem to be okay.

No big plans for the weekend. We have major cleaning to since we have a kitchen renovation currently going on. There’s spackle dust everywhere. Ugh!

  7. I blew my blender some time ago and haven’t bothered to get another one.. so now I use Mum’s . Dessert after breakfast is so cool, it should start trending. I’m known to have dessert FOR breakfast on occassion. Leftover milktart or chocolate cake anyone? Sad about the eggs, darn it! And I know eggs always make an appearance in your day? I’m surprised I haven’t gotten an oat intolerence with the major kick I was on a few weeks back.

  8. I made turkey meatloaf for my family the other night, and had grilled cheese for lunch yesterday! We must be on the same wavelength or something.

That’s a HUGE bummer about the egg intolerance. I can’t say I’ve ever become intolerant to something, but when I was in 5th grade and in my first professional play, I’d get chicken strips and honey mustard alllllll the time on my way to the theatre. After the 3 month run ended, I couldn’t even look at that meal for years.

Thank God that ended though, because chicken strips and honey mustard are the bomb. Good luck with your egg recovery! Haha

  9. I don’t think I ever gave myself an intolerance but I have had to take breaks from foods… eating them too much made them seem icky to me. Now tequila and pinot grigio…. yah, can’t drink them at ALL anymore due to an unfortunate evening a few years ago…

  10. I’m having grilled cheese for lunch now after reading this so thank you for that inspiration I don’t crave dessert in the morning but I Guess my large hot chocolate does the trick for me. I started to get sick of Cosmo so I’m glad you’re noticing a change because it means I might have a few good issues waiting for me in my apartment at school. Have a great weekend!

  11. my friend at work has a ball she sits on all day. but the hardest thing is just not having it roll away. I think that chair would be awesome, I still wish I had a standing desk though.

  12. i’ll definitely be looking into that meatloaf recipe! what a bummer about the eggs. i think i had an intolerance to them when i was little. my stomach would hurt whenever i ate scrambled eggs. however once i started eating egg whites it didn’t bother me, so maybe the yolk was the intolerance? anyway now i eat yolks too with no problem. hopefully your intolerance will “cycle out”!
Caitlin recently posted..Fashion Friday: Nancy Rose Performance Giveaway! My Profile

    • I think my issue is with the yolks as well – I had egg whites in my breakfast this morning without a problem! Hopefully just minimizing them for the next little while will do the trick.

  13. That perch dinner looks good! Which diner did you go to?

Haha I sometimes need a chocolate fix after breakfast too. Who says dessert should be limited to after lunch and dinner?

This weekend I’m going to Waterloo (and checking out a restaurant called Wildcraft), getting sushi with my sister, and going to yoga with a friend!

  14. I am glad that you eat ketchup with your grilled cheese. When people call me crazy for liking that I think THEY are crazy!

  15. Yep!! I have some chocolate every day after breakfast and dinner haha. I crave it more in the morning now but can’t go to bed without a tiny piece either I don’t know that I’ve ever given myself an intolerance to food by eating too much of it, but I’ve definitely made myself sick of it and had to take months off…oats just got back into the picture after almost a year off

  16. I wish the balance ball chair were higher – then I’d totally buy it for work. I saw it at Costco and REALLY wanted it.

When I was 12, I once ate so many hard boiled eggs at Easter I gave myself a rash. Seriously. Now I try not to eat 8 eggs at once

  18. Considering I’ve been eggs for breakfast every single day for three years, I’m surprised I haven’t given myself an intolerance! I did go through a phase where I felt super queasy immediately after eating eggs, but I think it was just a blood sugar thing.

    Love all those quotes!

  19. That chair is so awesome! I would love to have that for my desk!!

  20. I have some dessert anytime, like a piece of chocolate.

I went and read a bunch of reviews for the Oster Beehive blender and its been good to me for years!

  21. I’ve heard of people who have developed an intolerance. I’m REALLY scared I might somehow develop issues with sweet potatoes one day… I may just be eating five too many….
Alice @ Daily Sweet Potato recently posted..Daikon and Carrot SoupMy Profile

  22. Had the exact same issue as Amanda had- I developed at oat intolerance a while back because it legit was my only carb source and had it multiple times a day! Eggs can be another culprit so it’s wise to keep testing waters!

I love your random lunch- Chucking anything on baby spinach is always a winner. I threw a stir fry on there once- stir fry salad.
Arman @ thebigmansworld recently posted..Sweet potato and cheddar pancakesMy Profile

  23. That sucks about eating eggs…and it’s weird for it to happen so randomly. Hmm…

That chair looks awesome! I want one!

No plans for me this weekend, other than working a 6th day. Fun!

  24. The quotes are awesome! Sorry about the egg/nausea – cutting back is a great idea! I had the same thing happen after eating oatmeal for 8 weeks straight, but I’m back to normal enjoyment now
That chair is awesome – I saw at a store here and I really wanted to buy it, but don’t have a place to put it.
Liz @ Carpe Diem and Run recently posted..I’m SlippingMy Profile

  25. I love having salad right out of the container, it just means less dishes! I sat on an exercise ball when I worked in an office over the summer, and once I discovered they made those chairs I fell in love with them.

  26. I got a small allergy to a peanut, eating it spoons within a week… That was quite sad because I really love peanut butter. But after I cut off its consumption to 1 Art. of l a day (very little, it is serious) my reaction took place Obviously, our organism knows better that it is necessary for it and in what quantities

  27. THAT CHAIR! It’s a need, not a want. How cool! Also I’m a huge egg eater (and lover) so it’s a terrifying thought that I could possibly build an intolerance for them–hope that doesn’t happen!
