It’s supposed to be 7 (45) degrees today. All I can say is that that better happen, because we’ve had snow the last couple of days. Dammit winter just end!! Yes, I complain about the weather too much…but I’m not the only one, right?

Five Things Friday

But at least we have the weekend to look forward to, right? And Five Things Friday to talk about today Wink

5 Things I’ve Eaten Lately:

1. Salmon cake with green beans + butter and sweet potato wedges + ketchup.

Salmon Cake The salmon was one of those kitchen experiments that miraculously worked – I threw together canned salmon, a bit of olive oil mayo, panko bread crumbs, and some seasonings and baked them. They actually turned out pretty amazing, so I think I’m going to have to try to recreate them.

2. Ham and cheese quesadilla with salsa. Cottage cheese and jam on the side.

Quesadilla Mmm…cheese.

3. Steak and chicken burrito bowl from Bar Burrito.

Burrito Bowl I was hoping to quell my Chipotle craving. It was good….but no Chipotle. Dammit. P.S. Does anyone actually eat the tortilla bowl? I tried a bite and it just tasted soggy and gross to me.

4. Banana protein pancake with Barney Butter and Justin’s Chocolate Hazelnut:

Protein Pancake Doubling up on nut butters = the best way to do it. P.S. I always eat most of the banana while I wait for the pancake to cook…I’m impatient!

5. Skinnytaste’s Cheeseburger Casserole:

Casserole Definitely my favourite casserole recipe that I’ve found. So good.

5 Things Happening This Week:

1. My parents’ baseball team sometimes do a casino-and-winery fundraiser, so bright and early tomorrow morning Eric and I will be on a bus to Niagara Falls! When we last did this trip 2 years ago (except it was to Windsor instead) I won about $260 on a penny slot. Think that I’ll be able to recreate that? (I could use it…). Although speaking of gambling, this just reminds me that I’ve never been to Vegas. I think this needs to happen in the next couple of years…

Zombies in Vegas (img source)

Seems like a fair question…

2. This article from Thought Catalog: 101 Things I Will Teach My Daughters. Just amazing.

3. Regarding the article above:

  • 4. How to apply red lipstick.
  • 5. How to wear the crap out of red lipstick.

Somebody needs to teach me these things! I seriously have no idea how to even go about finding the right shade red lipstick for me…anyone wanna help me out?

4. I actually found La Croix in Canada!

La Croix Amanda told me that she found some in Target – I checked the one near me, but they weren’t carrying it. I ended up at the one across town over the weekend, and they had some! Only a few flavours (lemon, lime and grapefruit) but it’s a start.

5. Awesome news this week – Eric’s sister-in-law is pregnant, and we just found out it’s a boy! So, we’re going to have our first nephew in August!! Laughing

5 Things I’ve Pinned This Week:

1. Bunny Chow via Your Cup of Cake.

Bunny Chow Easter = Mini Eggs = Happiness. Definitely need to make this!

2. This.

Strength Can we all agree?

3. Drunken Cherry Chocolate Cake via Natasha’s Kitchen.

Cherry Cake This is basically a Black Forest Cake, upgraded. Cannot go wrong with that!

4. Yup.

Love Yourself

5. Homemade Reese’s Eggs via The Recipe Critic.

Reese's Eggs Another Easter must. The Eggs are always better than regular peanut butter cups – a better chocolate/peanut butter ratio.

Desserts and inspirational quotes. Basically my life right now.

Have a great weekend!

  1. Reese’s pb eggs are my favorite way to eat Reese’s. I don’t know what makes them better than the hearts, footballs, and whatever other shapes they have, but yes I am obsessed with the eggs. What is La Croix? I don’t think i have seen this before! Have a great weekend!

  2. Yay that’s awesome you found La Croix here! Now I need to go hit up Target…

I can’t figure out how to pull off red lipstick either. I feel like I stick out like a sore thumb every time I test it out (and then I quickly wipe it off and decide to stick with my chapstick haha).

    Happy Friday!

  3. I wear a bright red lip stain from time to time… but it still makes me nervous. I’m worried it’s going to smudge and I’ll end up looking like a slutty clown.

I’m not going to be able to stop thinking about those homemade PB eggs. Seriously the best part of Easter. Ahh!

  4. Ummm those salmon cakes look delicious!! As far as red lipstick goes…. if you want to experiment I’d suggest buying 3 very different shades of whatever brand is on sale. A lot of times at CVS they will have a certain brand on sale for like $6 each–which really isn’t that bad. That way you’re not spending $10 on a lipstick that you’re not going to like. I think the only real way to find a shade is to experiment! Or…I think you could go into Sephora and they could probably help you out! ….but then they’ll want you to buy their stuff so it just depends how much you’re willing to spend. I love red lipstick though so I hope you find a shade you like!

  5. Oh Mini Eggs… definitely a bit of a sore spot for me. I used to LOVE them and look forward to Easter all year long just so I could eat them by the bucketful, and then they had to go slap an allergy warning on ‘em. It was a sad day for sure…

And I hate that we didn’t get a chance to hit up Sephora when we were at HLS! Red lipstick is definitely a pain in the butt to try to pick out, but we would have found you something I’m not sure they have one in Park City, so maybe we just need to organize a blogger meet up in Vegas and hit one up over there. Love that place.

    • :-O I didn’t even notice they slapped an allergy warning on there! I’ll have to figure out how to make homemade ones and send you some. And you seriously need to take me to a Sephora sometime, you need to teach me your ways

  6. MINI EGGS!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  7. You are SO right. The holiday Reese’s are ALWAYS better. I think it is because they are a lot thicker and have more PB

  8. I’m SO excited for the influx of Easter candy that will be happening soon. The only thing I love more than Christmas candy and decorations are Easter candy and decorations because how could you not love adorable bunnies and chicks and lambs? (Okay, I know that’s not the real point of Christmas and Easter, and I do genuinely celebrate the real points of both holidays, but I can still celebrate the material things, right?)

  9. I love Easter candy!! Cadbury eggs are the greatest! I also like mini eggs! I’m totally checking out those homemade Reese’s eggs. They sound amazing!

  10. Thanks so much for sharing my drunken cherry cake! You’re awesome and I really like your blog! I agree; things are better with sprinkles!

  11. You are definitely not alone about the weather. In the winter I complain about it all day every day. But I’m the only one who doesn’t complain when it’s 95 degrees out and 80% humidity in the summer… I love the heat! So that is how I justify my moaning about the cold.

And congrats on becoming an auntie! Yay! I wish my sis would hurry up and get married so I can join the aunt club. I’ve seen that cheeseburger casserole around and was skepitcal… but yours looks great! I love the little pickles on top!

But I have to disagree on the Reese’s eggs… far too much peanut butter and not enough chocolate!

    • Seriously try it, it’s one of my favourite recipes I’ve found lately! And I will definitely take crazy humidity over cold weather any day.

  12. All of the recipes you pinned look awesome (plus I might have to attempt your salmon cakes since I bought a can of salmon a while back & have no idea what to do with it). Reese’s eggs are always better than cups and mini eggs are like crack to me.
And as for red lipstick, I think my skin tone is similar to yours (at least based on blog pics), so when you figure out how to wear the crap out of it, do share! I tend to stay away from lipstick in general (love me some tinted balm and gloss, though), but sometimes you just want to step on the wild side, haha.
    Happy Friday!

  13. Reeses Eggs?!?! Om.

Ruby Woo from Mac is my go-to red lipstick, and it looks good on almost any skin tone. Highly recommend! And it doesn’t get on your teeth either, which is always a bonus.

  14. Cadbury creme eggs USED to be the best thing about Easter- until they realised how well they sold during that period and now have stupid themed ones all year round “halloween creme eggs” “Christmas creme eggs”….but their interiors are actually made of crack.

    • haha I’m back and forth on the creme eggs! they’re good, but they’re so rich…I definitely prefer my mini eggs.

  15. I’ve never heard of La Croix before but I am intrigued and will definitely be checking it out! I love the look of the cheeseburger casserole. I need to make some more casserole type dishes!

  17. You are not the only one to complain about the weather – it is officially spring, so the snow needs to leave!

  18. I may try that salmon with panko one time. Funny. I’ve used panko in Tilapia but not on salmon! Haha

Red lipsticks,I think it depends on how strong the red shade is. I look ridiculous in some shades, TBH. Haha. Same goes with pink. I think it really depends on the shade. Some pink lipsticks look good on me, while some (esp the “lighter shades”) make me look like I’m about to be hospitalized or sick. LOL. I think it’s a trial and error in looking for the right shades for you. So far what works for me are the neutral/buff and a little orangey (mix of pink and orange) shades.

I love black forrest cakes! One of the bests one there!

  19. I love a good quesadilla. I always stuff them as much as I can.
That Reeses egg? TO DIE FOR.

  20. Ohhhh! Hope you had some luck on your side this weekend, girlie! Love that T-Rex meme…totally laughed out loud at that one! I’ve never been to Vegas OR ever gambled! Never even bought a lotto ticket!

I’m juuuuuuust coming around to red lipstick. The trick is to try on like a BILLION till you find the right shade for you. I knew with my skin tone I wanted something a bit darker so it didn’t end up making me look/feel like a clown and it definitely took some searching, but I love the color I ended up with. Now I just need to take care of my chapped and dry lips so that I can actually wear it without it looking bad! Haha!

    • unfortunately, luck escaped me! buuuut my mom won like $200, so she’s buying me a pedicure on Saturday :-p and I should try a darker shade of red – I usually try lighter ones, but I don’t like them!
