Five Things Friday

What does everyone have planned for the weekend? It’s Momma Sprinkles birthday on Sunday, and I’ve got a surprise planned. I can’t wait!

But of course, it’s the usual Five Things Friday today, so getting right into it:

5 Things I’ve Eaten Lately:

My day of fast food and chain restaurants in Michigan:

Chain restaurants We didn’t bother to pack any food on our shopping trip, so I ended up with McDonalds for breakfast (Egg McMuffin, hash brown, and tea) Panda Express for lunch (chicken, kale and mushroom dish, angus steak and veggies, veggie side) and Olive Garden (grilled trout and pasta). Although I’m pretty sure that my blood was half sodium at the end of the day, I regret nothing.

Oh, and Olive Garden is a tradition for my mom and I on our shopping trip, so there was no way we were skipping that. Although it served as a reminder to avoid ordering fish in chain restaurants – that was not the best.

2. Pizza bagels with baby carrots.

Pizza Bagel Pizza with less effort. Can’t go wrong with that.

3. Chobani Flip in Nutty for Nana.

Chobani Flip Pretty good! I always like to add something crunchy to my yogurt for the sake of texture, and you can’t go wrong with almonds and chocolate.

4. Grilled cheese with guacamole hummus and turkey.

Grilled Cheese One of the few grilled cheeses I’ve ever had that didn’t require ketchup. So good!

5. Avocado toast with hot sauce and eggs.

Avocado Toast No surprises there. My biggest decision with this meal is whether I want it for breakfast or for lunch that day…

5 Things Happening This Week:

1. Blend is in ONE week. Ohmygod that snuck up on me and I am freakin’ excited. I can’t wait to see some familiar faces again, and squish some people in hugs for the first time (+ a lot more that I don’t have the patience to hyperlink).

2. I’m pretty sure I’ve made my bed approximately 10 times in my adult life (not counting after I change the sheets) and half of those have been in the past week. I think I’m actually growing up.

3.  I think Southwestern Ontario skipped spring. I swear, one day it was 10 degrees, then I blinked and suddenly it was feeling like 30 (86), all the flowers were blooming, and the leaves were on the trees. I’m ok with this…and so is the pug (as long as we keep walks to cool mornings and evenings rather than in the blazing heat).

4. So the yoga teacher at my gym that I like is offering an 8 week, 16 class,  small (I think like 8 person) inversion yoga class series, and I really want to do it. I’ve really been enjoying yoga lately and I love the classes I take twice a week, so I’m curious to see how much I could improve my practice with more individualized instruction.

Of course, the issue – the cost. It’s hard to justify the extra classes (which costs about as much as a 15 class pass at a regular yoga studio) when I can take regular classes with my gym (without paying extra). So if I do it, that’ll mean taking it easy on expenses for the next couple of months…but I REALLLLY want to do it. Bah – I’m going to ask for more information on it when I go to the gym today, and I’ll have to decide soon. Help me!

5. Although I love Twitter, sometimes it feels pretty commercialized – like its main use is for businesses and companies to try and drive traffic. But then something like #YesAllWomen happens, which demonstrates how necessary forums like this for public discussion and education are. Reading through that hashtag thread is incredibly eye opening, and brings forward so many important questions and points that NEED to be discussed in our society.

Obviously, not what I usually blog about but I needed to express that, and offer my sympathy to those affected in Isla Vista.

A GAME OF THRONES WEDDING CAKE. That is amazing. Kinda funny that someone wanted their wedding cake to be GoT, but mainly amazing.

2. Why didn’t I go to this middle school?

3. This is weirdly true.

I blame Goosebumps for making me think that I was going to run into quicksand anytime I wandered away from a main road or path.

I’ve been looking for more vegetarian recipes and this looks pretty delicious. I mean…goat cheese.

  1. This is completely off topic but I really want to commend you Sam on proof of just how far you’ve come in kicking your past behaviour to the ground- ‘we didn’t bother to pack any food for our trip’. This. THIS.

    Okay, back to topic….Stoked you have blend coming up- wish I was there! I definitely don’t make my bed everyday- it’s a bad habit. I blame lack of time. And that wedding cake will give me nightmares.

  2. You’ve been eating all the foods I have or that I’ve been meaning to make- pizza bagels- I almost had those for lunch yesterday and then ran out of sauce. Grilled cheese- a staple in my diet lately. OLIVE GARDEN BREADSTICKS- my favorite. I think I just have food on my mind since it’s almost time for breakfast
    As for the yoga thing- I probably would do it. As long as you don’t miss any of the classes it is worth it but I also tend to prioritize fitness classes over other luxuries in my budget because I love them. If I move back to Baltimore I’ll most likely splurge on a membership at the cycle studio because it is something I love and I would get more use out of it than something impulsive, if that makes sense.

    • haha YES on the breadsticks! Whenever we’re there for lunch we do the soup salad and breadsticks thing. And that’s true – I know that I’ll have to ease up on shopping and whatnot, but I think it would be worth it. You have a great one too!

  3. I had a legit craving for McD fries pop out of NOWHERE the other day, so I’m thinking I’ll have to satisfy it this weekend… doused in sweet and sour sauce, naturally

    And I seriously can’t believe Blend is in a week. It still hasn’t hit me yet. I still need to go shopping So yeah… that’s probably what a lot of my weekend is going to entail.

    And people make beds?! Seriously?! I don’t even make mine when I wash my sheets… I just throw everything on there and leave as-is.

    2. Obviously I have no idea what your finances are but I think you should do the yoga class! I think you deserve it after all you’ve been through cutting out your exercise. I wish I had a yoga studio near me or I would totally do something like that!

    • I’m living off of student loans right now, which on one hand makes it seem like I should be more careful with my money, but on the other…what’s another $200 at this point? Budgeting will start next month, lol.

  5. A worse calamity than an overdose of sodium at resturants? Under-salted flavorless food, hmph. Yeah that happened recently at a seafood place.
    Oh quicksand! Bahaaa yesss! I would always think every step I took – while roaming about in the nearby forest – was a potential quicksand deathtrap. Yet I didn’t read Goosebumps..there was a movie that did it.
    I’ve never though about my some-day wedding, let alone the cake..it would have to be a – almost fudgy textured – dark chocolate cake..three layers; sandwiched with chocolate mousse…enrobed in a ferrero chocolate shell. Yeah, that sounds about right .

  6. That grilled cheese… SOUNDS AMAZING.

    -I definitely don’t make my bed everyday.. well, neatly anyway. I do pull the blanket over to make it look more presentable haha
    -I don’t belong to a yoga studio, but I would looove to belong to a bikram yoga place! probably the only one I would ever get a membership for.

  7. I must admit, I make my bed every morning. It’s (somehow) become second nature. I recently purchased a yoga class package and spent more money than I would have liked…but it was WELL worth it. I always look forward to going and feel great after. I would do the yoga class

  9. I’m not happy about it, but yes I make the bed everyday! Except on the weekends when it’s curt’s job because he’s the last one out of it! I’ve actually contemplated getting out of bed earlier just so he has to make it on weekdays lol

  12. Hahah I love the Goosebumps reference- I was a big fan of the series when I was growing up! So excited for all you girls heading to BLEND…and also feel a wave of FOMO coming over me ;)!   13. I am OCD about making my bed – I can’t leave the house with it unmade! This food porn is killing me. I want bread so badly but have to wait until next weekend when I make my pre-comp specialty of bacon, egg and cheese bagels. I make a huge batch and bring them for my strongman friends – I’m developing quite the reputation haha. I might mix it up and try your pizza idea!

  16. Hey there! Happy weekend to you. I have been thinking about trying the chicken, kale, mushroom dish at Panda Express. But I rarely get “fast food” myself. So is it worth it? Was it pretty good? Good for fast food anyways?

  17. Haha I definitely made the mistake of ordering fish at a chain restaurant (Turtle Jacks) once… never again will I make that mistake.

    I tend to only make my bed right after I wish the sheets. Because there’s something that feels SO good about crawling into a freshly washed and made up bed.

  18. My hubby was just telling me that he read making your bed in the morning is a great thing to do because you’ve already accomplished something so early in the day. Not sure if it makes the rest of my day productive, but it can’t hurt! Avocado + eggs has to be the best combo!

  19. Confession: I don’t move much when I sleep, so making my bed usually consists of just tossing the top corner of the blanket back to the top of the bed. It’s not perfect but it passes.

    I’ve taken quite a few yoga classes – big and small. Honestly, I don’t think the individualized instruction was THAT earth-shattering. Sometimes the constructive criticism became a bit much with all that attention. I prefer medium-sized classes, and i usually befriend the instructor, which results in more individualized attention anyway.

  20. I almost never make my bed, unless I have one of those days where you know you just feel like cleaning EVERYTHING!

    I don’t belong to a yoga studio! I wish I could afford it, right now I am sticking to free yoga at the local lululemon!

    This might sound crazy haha but I want my wedding cake to be made out of fruit! I love that idea of those watermelon cakes! So yummy and good and different!

    This weekend I am spending the whole weekend relaxing and taking it super easy, mainly catching up on some much needed sleep

    • I’ve never done a lululemon class – I’ll have to try that sometime. And I think that sounds good, especially if you got married in the middle of summer, that’d be so refreshing.
      Those weekends are so needed sometimes, enjoy!
