Wooooot Friday! Anyone have any exciting plans for the weekend? I’m driving up to hang out with Chelsea tomorrow, so of course, I’ve been looking forward to the end of the week. Just one more day at the office…

But, lists of things!

5 Things I’ve Eaten this Week:

1. I can always tell when we’re getting into summer weather, because green smoothies start making an appearance for breakfast at least a few times a week.

Green Smoothie

This version had unsweetened vanilla almond milk, cottage cheese, a frozen banana, 1/2 scoop vanilla protein powder and spinach. The cottage cheese was an interesting addition – it made it almost cheesecake-like in flavour. I absolutely need toppings for my green smoothies, so this was topped with raspberries and Fibre 1.

2. Bison burger on a pretzel bun with honey mustard, ketchup and pickles. Salad on the side.

Bison Burger

I actually really freakin’ adored this burger. I remember trying bison meatballs before, so I figured I’d be happy with it in burger form – which clearly, I was. I’d rather find some ground bison and make my burgers from scratch, but the PC version will do for now. And I kind of never want to eat a regular hamburger bun again – pretzel buns are the way to go.

3. Tuna melts on english muffins with shredded goat cheddar. Baby carrots on the side.

Tuna Melts

My secret seasoning ingredient when it comes to tuna/chicken salad: paprika. Seriously, add a sprinkle – it’s so good. I also use about 3/4 hummus, 1/4 olive oil mayo ratio for the dressing-part of the salad, which is pretty delicious.

4. Oatmeal with peanut butter, raspberries and a fried egg/egg whites on top. Oatmeal

I took advantage of a cold, rainy morning to make some oats for breakfast. Because really, I just can’t go that long without them.

5. Annie’s Mac and Cheese with spinach, bell peppers, and honey garlic turkey sausage.

Annies

Clearly, ketchup is 100% necessary.

5 Happenings this week:

1. I’ve decided that Dr. Scholl’s Fast Flats are the greatest invention ever.

Fast Flats

I’ve used them in the past for bar nights where my feet end up dying in 4 inch heels, but lately I’ve just been wearing them to work on days where I don’t feel like breaking out the fancy footwear. They look like regular cute black ballet flats, but it seriously feels like I’m walking about the office in slippers all day. It’s pretty wonderful.

2. This hill will be the death of me.

Massive_Hill

Every morning that I bike to work, I have to attempt to get up this ginormous hill (it’s steeper than it looks in this picture!). And Queen Cersei is a cruiser/leisure style bike, so there’s no gears or anything…right now, I can get about 1/3 of the way up before hopping off to walk. The goal: get to the top by the end of the summer.

3. As a Canadian girl, I kind of grew up on ketchup chips. Thankfully, Amanda kindly informed me where I could find the ketchup-flavoured Popchips I’ve been keeping my eye out for for the past couple of months.

Ketchup Popchips

Tastes like childhood.

And I’m not going to lie, after what spending years drooling over fun foodie things that American bloggers post that I can’t find around here…I’m rubbing it in Wink

4. For the first time ever this month, I’ve joined Foodie Pen Pals.

The matches have been sent out, and I have plans to go out shopping this weekend to put my package together. I’m excited to see what I get at the end of the month!

5. I had plans to go to the gym yesterday morning before work, but my ‘alarm’ (which is the pug) never woke me up and apparently I slept through Eric getting up and getting ready for work…so I slept in. Clearly my body is in need of more sleep, so no big deal to me…especially after I read this Buzzfeed article Tongue Out

5 Interesting Pins this week:

My love of pulled pork combined with my love of Mexican. Absolutely must make this.

2. This outfit. I don’t even really like yellow, but I think this is adorable.

3. Guacamole Topped Bacon Bites.

Guacamole Topped Bacon Bites

Considering my current bacon obsession…and my always-present guacamole addiction…I think it’s safe to say that this might be the best food combination I’ve ever seen.

4. Truth.

Get off the scale

5. Buffalo Roasted Cauliflower.

Buffalo Roasted Cauliflower

The best way to make me eat my veggies: cover them in buffalo sauce.

Have a good one!

<— Yay or nay: pickles on your burger? Dill or sweet pickles? I’m happy with either, really…although as a kid, I was obsessed with sweet pickles.

<— In an office/business setting, would you rather wear heels or flats? I love my heels, but my feet need a break every so often.

<— Best thing you can order in a BBQ restaurant? Pulled pork and cornbread. As long as I get those, I am happy.

  1. LOVE that dress- such a gorgeous shade of yellow! I’m kicking myself for not coming over for bison burger night ;)! I prefer the look of heels in the office but you can’t beat flats for comfort…I tend to go mid-way with wedges- they look cute without killing my feet!

  2. Haha I saw that buzzfeed article. SO funny. I spend days looking at that page, it’s so ridiculous! The dress is so pretty. I always want ones like that so badly but then have nowhere to wear them. It’s a problem. I need more of a real life I guess. You certainly know how to doctor up Annie’s to make it into a fancier dinner! I just eat it plain jane- I don’t know how to put effort into my cooking lol

  3. Have fun with the Foodie Penpals!! I did it for a while, but then got a little overwhelmed, so I stopped. Starting to love the inofficial Foodie Package sendings though!
Love the dress, so pretty! I love my heels, but as you, I need a break here and there and where flats – especially when standing up on my desk.

  4. Yummy for Bison Burgers, whenever I see them on a menu, I have to order one. Have yet to graduating to making them at home though, in time! Thanks for sharing the scale quote, a LOT of people need to hear that! Happy Friday Sam

  5. I totally agree that vegetables should be covered in buffalo sauce. If honey mustard isn’t around, buffalo sauce is my second go-to
And I’m loving that tuna melt with goat cheese and the idea to add hummus – brilliant!
Those flats are super adorable. I honestly just wear tennis shoes everywhere because I’m afraid my feet will start to hurt, but I think they would pretty happy with shoes that feel like slippers Where did you get them?
    Have a great Friday/weekend!

  6. So when are you going to drive up to hang out with -me-??

Firstly of all-ly, I want to dive right in to that mac ‘n cheese bowl. I completely and 100% agree that ketchup is a necessity when it comes to those things. And how freaking good are those ketchup chips? I’m secretly afraid to mention them because I worry that everyone will start to go out and buy out the limited supply. Mum’s the word

Don’t hate me but… I’m not a burger girl. I’ve never liked them, and would always opt for hot dogs if I had the choice. BUT! I do love pickles… sweet, dill… doesn’t matter. And flats are most definitely a necessity for me at work. I end up running around a lot, so heels would probably kill me.

    Happy Friday, love!

    • As soon as I have a good 3-4 days to dedicate to driving each way, I’m so there

And confession: 9 times of out 10 I got for a hotdog over a burger too. Think I can convince someone to start making bison hotdogs? I mean…they have chicken hotdogs.
And notice how I didn’t say where I actually bought the chips And now I have to buy more because Eric ate most of them on me…

  7. That dress is soo cute! i lovvve pickles on burgers, and speaking of tuna melts, i’ll usually chup up so gerkins and add them to my tuna salad. so good. ill have to try paprika next time!! that mac & cheese looks soo good too (another thing i add tuna too) and yes to flats alll the time!! i used to wear heels all the freaking time then i stopped for a while and now i just never wear them. going out? flats. work? flats. fancy dinner? fancy flats.

  9. Pickles are a MUST on any burger or sandwich I have And your bison burger on a pretzel bun sounds AMAZING. I must fund pretzel buns at once! Guacamole and bacon bites sound like one of the best ideas ever, and I love that reminder about the scale Have a blast with Chelsea, girl!! Can’t wait to hear how the meet up goes!!

  11. Pretzel buns are SO good! They truly make burgers (veggie, for me!) THAT much better! Also, I am glad to see that I am not the only person who LOVES the combination of cheese and ketchup! And speaking of ketchup..I already mentioned this on Amanda’s posts, but I am SO jealous of the ketchup Pop Chips in Canada! I NEED some of those!

  12. YES! Those guacamole bacon bites are an absolute must try. And what an easy recipe, too! Keep biking up that hill every day and it’ll become nothing. I totally know what you mean, though. When I drive by my running route, the hills look like no big deal. I’ve never thought to put a fried egg on top of my oatmeal – maybe I’ll have to give it a try!

Oh PS that reminds me, I need to e-mail you! Are you in Ontario this Summer, because I may be headed there in July!!
Looove your green smoothie, I think you know I’m a fan of that
I’m a heels girl till the end, but I totally understand the feet needing a bit of a break…even when I was working at a restaurant and my feet were dying I still wore them. Not sure why I never learnt my lesson;)
    Happy Friday!

    • Yes maam – I should be here all month. And July doesn’t look too busy for me yet, and clearly I would love to meet you! Let me know the details
And heels will always be my fav

  15. I’m not a huge fan of Mac & Cheese but that photo… definitely got me craving some! I think it’s the addition of veggies in it. Nom.

Oh yeah and I LOVE cottage cheese but I’ve only added it to a smoothie once before to make a “strawberry cheesecake” shake and it definitely had that cheesecake flavor in it cause of it, it was awesome. I haven’t thought of adding it to green smoothies though. Oh yeah, what blender do you use for your green smoothies? Mine kinda sucks so I’m wondering what brands people are using.

  16. I’ve never had a pickle on a burger! Another wisdom I will have to try passed down from my food Yoda I’m all for flats- almost all te time! I love being able to run around with ease- makes life easier- I go barefoot a lot too lol (not at work of course but beach, park etc lol) I am also so intrigued about kethup chips- Yoda- wow! have a lovely weekend Sam!

    • I would definitely go barefoot more often if I could! And you must try pickles on a burger sometime! Seriously such a burger necessity.

  17. I love bison! It’s so hard to find grass fed though

  18. Okay, so I just ate dinner, but my appetite is roaring again after reading this post. Guuurrrl, can I move in? I’ll provide free Atticus babysitting in exchange for a few bites of dinner. Your pimped up Annie’s mac n’ cheese looks glorious! Note to self: add chicken sausage and spinach next time. Yum! And then there’s the Popchips. Reason 4327623 I need to get my bum to Canada. Another, much more important reason being you, of course.

I have complete faith that you and Queen Cersei will conquer that hill this summer. Doing it without the assistance of gears will make it all more glorious. Aaaand, the gorgeous leg muscle you build will be icing on the cake. Win-win!

Love love love the dress and the scale quote, and you KNOW those bacon bites are calling my name! Have a great weekend, Sam! xoxoxo

You have a good one too Sara! <3

  19. I love that dress. I’m not a yellow person either, because I am blonde and it would mostly wash me out when I am not tan. I wonder if there are other colors for the bottom part!
