So of course, I have to acknowledge everyone’s comments on yesterday’s post. I’ve posted a couple difficult ones in my day, but never have I had so much trouble pressing the ‘publish’ button. But once again, you guys all show me how incredibly supportive this community is, and I thank everyone for their opinions and kind words. Yes, I have been through a lot, but I came out much stronger, happier and healthier on the other side.

But….Friday!! Clearly, Friday lists are a necessity. Clare actually just started a Five Things Friday link-up, so I’ll be joining in this week!

Five Things Friday

So many things on Fridays Wink

5 Things I’ve Eaten Lately:

1. Green smoothie: frozen banana, cookies n cream protein powder, chocolate PB2, unsweetened vanilla almond milk, and a few handfuls of spinach topped with cereal.

Green Smoothie

Yes, we’re into cold weather. But still…smoothies.

2. Spinach with a baked sweet potato, chicken sliders and BBQ sauce.

Salad

I don’t usually eat salads for dinner, but this definitely made me happy. Sweet potatoes and BBQ sauce = awesome combo.

3. Leftover Wild Harvest mac and cheese, pulled pork, and roasted broccoli.

Dinner I need to eat pulled pork more often. As in all the time.

4. Banana protein pancake with peanut butter.

Protein Pancake It’s all about that little melty pool of peanut butter.

5. Spinach salad with roasted red kabocha, black beans, cranberry and black pepper boursin cheese with roasted garlic yogurt dressing. Two chicken sliders with BBQ sauce.

Spinach Salad There was a lot more kabocha, but of course it got munched on while I was waiting for the sliders to cook.

5 Things Happening This Week:

1. I’m writing this Thursday night, but unless there’s a miraculous overnight recovery for the pug it looks like we’re back at the vet tomorrow Frown

Atti

2. Speaking of the pug, I learned this week that he really loves scrambled eggs. I like to give him his pain med right when we get up, but he needs to take it with food – and he doesn’t usually eat his own right away. So I’ve been scrambling up an egg a few mornings this week and he has been adoring it.

3. I’m going to be an elf this year!

Elf 4 Health

Yup, I signed up for Lindsay and Elle’s Elf for Health Holiday Challenge! It seems like a good way to shake up my routine and keep my focused on healthy habits before the holidays. Should be fun!

4. I’m heading back to my alma mater tomorrow. I did my undergrad at Brescia (a part of the University of Western Ontario) and every year they have a ‘More Than a Book Sale’, where in addition to selling books they have local artisans selling their wares. One of my aunt’s is actually a jewellery maker and will have a stand set up, so we’ll be going to support her. Apparently they have a brand new building up, which I’m excited to see.

5. have you ever heard that tip about takeout boxes are meant to be folded down as plates?

Takeout Eric and I grabbed dinner from Wok Box on Saturday night and we decided to test out that theory. It worked, even if my stirfry (Hong Kong spice with chicken and udon noodles) stayed in box form for a minute or two…

5 Posts I’ve Loved In The Last Week:

1. Love & Learning To Love: Baring It All from Snack Therapy. This post is incredibly inspiring – we all need to love and celebrate what we have.

2. As We Speak, I’m… from Running With Spoons. I find that people either love taking selfies, or shy away from them – I’m definitely in the latter category. But Amanda is inspiring me to maybe branch out into the selfie world a little bit more often.

3.  Intuitive Exercise from The Healthy Maven. I’m so proud of Davida for reaching the relationship with exercise then she has. We just need to listen to our bodies, and they’ll tell us what we need to do.

4. Change What Isn’t Broken from The Run Within. Important things to keep in mind when we find ourselves playing the comparison game.

5. Why Do You Workout? from The Little Honey Bee. Exercise becomes a lot more rewarding when we stop focusing on the superficial aspects.

Have a lovely weekend!

  1. Smoothies will always be a staple in my diet, no matter the temp! You have some great links to share! I have read most of them, and loved them, but I can’t wait to read the post from The Run Within! Thanks for sharing and have a great weekend!

  2. Fingers crossed for the pugster! I remember cooking up little mini meals for my dog when she wasn’t feeling well or needed to take some kind of medicine. Although in her case it was usually ground beef and rice, so I have no idea if she would like eggs… BUT! seeing as she loves all people food, I’m assuming she would.

I haven’t signed up for Elf4Health -yet- but I’m seriously considering it. Watch I’ll just cave and sign up at the last minute And I really enjoyed those articles from Amy and Davida as well… especially since I read them on a day where I was writing up a post about my own fitness routine.

    Happy Friday, love!

    • You’ll have to let me know if you end up signing up! And I guess I shouldn’t be surprised that Atti loved the eggs – he just loves food, period.

  3. Thanks lady for that shoutout, means a lot. I can’t wait to check out the other links, ironically I have probably read them all. That little pug face gets me every time haha. I need to try making pulled pork or even pulled chicken with my crockpot, that has been on my ‘try’ list for far too long

  9. Smoothies are always acceptable, regardless of what the weather may be. Awwh, poor puggle. I hope everything gets better soon! He looks so sad. And the take out boxes–mind. Blown. I’m definitely temped to order take out this weekend just to try that…or maybe I’ll just get a few boxes and eat my meals on them, hah.

  10. I’ve still been making smoothies everyday for breakfast despite the cold weather. They’re just so good and so easy to whip up in the a.m. before work. Awww…poor Atti! It’s just so sad when pets are feeling well. I hope they get to the bottom of everything!

The best thing I ate this week was the homemade pizza I made! OMG…so good!

  12. Mmmm your meals look delicious! Mine never end up looking appetizing, even if they are. Best thing I ate this week- a HUGE breakfast burrito that I made! 1 egg, 2 egg whites, ground turkey, onion, broccoli, tomato, and cheese! It was divine.

  13. Smoothies are still going strong in my kitchen, too! I’m feeling so unmotivated to eat salad, so I kill two birds with one stone and get my greens in via smoothies.

One of the best things I ate happened last night: steak, baked sweet potato and broccoli – smothered in butter, followed up with chocolate & PB for dessert. YUUUM!

  14. Awe poor Atti I hope everything goes ok today. Sending hugs and thoughts your way. It’s been a long time since I’ve been back to the high school I graduated from haha. I’m not a huge fan of the place, though, so that might have something to do with it. Pitt, however, where i went to college is right down the street from where I work and i run through its campus all the time have fun visiting yours this weekend!

    • Right now, it looks like the vet thinks he looks ok enough to delay a decision on surgery another week – so not healed, but slowly getting better!

  15. About 95% of the reason I eat oatmeal is to get the melty peanut butter effect. It just makes peanut butter ten times better, I swear! And I really, really hope your pug is okay! I’d be a nervous wreck!
Lauren recently posted..i mustache you a question…My Profile

    • I’ve been freaking out all week We went in today though and the vet thinks it looks ok enough to hold off on a decision about surgery for another week, so that’s not a bad sign!

  16. I need to read all those links! Poor Atti, at least he has those eggs to cheer him up. Oh and I rarely eat salads for dinner either since I eat them at lunch. But that pulled pork + broc + mac combo looks SO perfect.

Last time I was at my high school was for an interview this summer. Didn’t get the job. It’s also literally 1 minute from my home, but I never think about it being there.

  25. I could seriously eat pulled pork all the time too. There’s actually this BBQ place called Memphis BBQ in Hamilton that I’m dying to check out sometime soon! And I will definitely be ordering the pulled pork.

Best thing I ate this week was my dad’s homemade lasagna. It’s one of the few perks of living back at home haha.

Have a good weekend and I hope Atticus is doing better!

    • Haha I do miss my mom’s cooking! And we went to the vet yesterday and he said that he wants to wait another week before we consider surgery – means that it’s not looking too bad, which is definitely a relief!

  26. I hope your pug is ok, not good at all!

I am loving how your banana protein pancake looks! Yummy!

I haven’t signed up for the Elf for Health challenge as I’ve already signed up to an Intuitive Eating holiday challenge from Jamie at Studio Eats and I just want to focus on the one challenge at a time. The Elf for Health one does sound like a lot of fun though.

Hope you are having a great weekend.

Poor poor puglet! I’d cook him up a whole DOZEN eggs if it made that little sad face perk up! I hate that he’s still (?) feeling bad!
