Pinterest: Things I’ve Actually Tried.

First off, just want to take a minute to offer my gratitude to our Veterans today. And secondly, I’d like to wish my future mother-in-law a happy birthday – have a great one Nadine!!

Hello there and happy Monday! I hope everyone had a fantastic weekend. I just wanted to relax for the most part, so I’m happy that I managed to do just that.

Today, I want to talk about Pinterest. I’m sure we’ve all been sucked into that black hole at least once, right? You find one thing that looks interesting and you decide to pin it, you find something else….and suddenly two hours has gone by. Oops.

That happens to me more often that I can to admit. I’m a huge Pinterest devotee – my page is actually older than my blog is. And as of right now, I have 36 boards and 2655 pins. Mainly recipes, but there’s also workouts, craft ideas, future wedding ideas (yes, I am that girl…not even engaged yet) quotes, tattoos….little bits of everything.

So it’s pretty safe to say that I haven’t tried absolutely everything I’ve pinned…not even remotely close. But recently I noticed Amy create a board for recipes she’s already made, which I thought was a fabulous idea. I’ve had one or two flops, but for the most part the pins I’ve attempted have turned out pretty fabulously. While it’s a little far-fetched to think that I’m going to make it through every single one of the recipes/workouts I’ve pinned, it’s nice to be able to see which ones I have tried and which ones moved their way to the top of the must-try list. I made the board to include recipes, workouts, and craft ideas (of which there are two that I’ve attempted…an artsy or crafty person, I am not).

(Oh, and I didn’t include any of my personal blog recipes, because obviously I’ve attempted those).

So some favourites when I was putting my “Things I’ve Actually Attempted” board together? (just click through the picture to get to the original pin)

Workouts:

Body Splits This workout series from Sweat Like a Pig (I wrote ‘pug’ first…le sigh). I’ve tried variations of this set of workouts and  I really like it – I love how Tara puts workouts together and she’s become my ‘go-to’ resource on all things heavy lifting.

35 Minute Treadmill Workout If I’m going to spend any amount of time on a cardio machine, I need to be changing speeds and incline constantly so I’m not dying of boredom. Julie‘s treadmill and elliptical workouts always did the trick – I was changing it up often to keep myself interested. I’ve been going to dance-style and step classes for my cardio workouts lately, but if I get back into treadmill/elliptical workouts, she’s one of my go-to’s.

Main Courses:

Chicken Cheesesteaks Jessica’s Homemade Chicken Cheesesteaks. Definitely one of my favourite dinners to make – perfectly cheesy and I love the onions and the peppers. I don’t usually keep cow’s milk at home, so I’d use unsweetened almond milk and add some xanthan gum while it was cooking to thicken it up a little.

Cheeseburger Casserole I’m not the biggest fan of beef burgers, so I don’t even understand why I love Gina’s Cheeseburger Casserole so much. It is ridiculous how good it is! Another dinner favourite.

Salsa Mini Loaves Sarah has basically become my go-to source for vegetarian and vegan dishes. Her White Bean and Salsa Mini Loaves have to be one of the best veggie dishes I’ve ever had – of course, I approve of anything with salsa and cheese Wink

Breakfast/Snacks

Banana Bread Another offering from Jessica. This is by FAR the best banana bread I’ve ever had in my life. Although with a name like Triple Fudge Banana Bread, how could it not be?

Thin Mint Pancakes We all know Heather as the queen of pancakes, right? Her Mint Chocolate Chip Protein Pancakes were the first recipe of hers that I tried, and it solidified her queen-ly status for me. Amazing, despite the fact that I had a little trouble with the ‘green’ aspect at first.

Desserts

Chocolate Therapy Cake I made Heather‘s Chocolate Therapy Cake for my mom’s birthday this year, and it definitely goes down as the best cake I’ve ever made. Soooo good.

Monster Cake So…a Monster cake. As in, had the energy drink baked into the cake and mixed into the frosting. My brother has probably bought the CEO of that company a car with the amount of Monster he’s drunk over the years, so for his birthday 2 1/2 years ago I found him a recipe for a Monster cake. I’m the greatest sister ever. It was actually really good, and I hate energy drinks!

Etcetera:

53 Reasons Why I made Eric the ’52 Reasons’ card deck for our first Valentine’s day together. Basically, on every card in a deck, you write a reason why you love (or like) the person that you’re giving it to. Probably the only remotely crafty thing I’ve done in years, but it was pretty cute.

So all in all, right now I’m sitting at 61 pins made. Not bad, but I definitely have a lot more to add to the list.

  1. I’m the worst food Pinterest-er ever, and try to minimize the amount of pins I create just so that I can actually focus on trying some of them! Although, I have definitely tried to play around with my wardrobe to create similar looks to my fashion board.
    I bought my mom an iPad for Christmas last year and she is obsessed with her Pinterest app…and she actually makes several pinned recipes every week!!
    How great is Gina’s Skinny Taste?! I have made several of her recipes; always a hit!

  3. I think the only pinterest recipes i’ve made are snicker doodle brownies and cauliflower garlic bread. The rest are ones I just stare at and say I’m going to make…and a thousand pins later I haven’t made any of them. One day. I like the idea of creating a separate board for things you have made though! It would be like motivation! Those cakes…so epic. And the cards are a super cute gift idea!!

  4. It’s in fact one of my current goals [current as in: let’s see how long I’ll keep up with it ;)] to actually try some of the Pinterest recipes on my boards. And the question about the number of pins? Err … can we skip that? It’s … embarrassing and overwhelming. Even if I tried my very best I’d still just be able to try a fraction of recipes I pinned and as I haven’t stopped pinning new ones … desaster.
    The card idea is so cute! Inspiring me to finally start pinning gift idea – not long until Christmas anymore.

  5. Pinterest is SO addicting! I’ve tried quite a few of the workouts and recipes I’ve pinned, but I have a whole lot more that I haven’t even looked at in a while. I think I’ve gone too crazy pinning. It definitely becomes overwhelming!

  7. I love Pinterest, but it also overwhelms me everytime I open it. I can only spend a few minutes there without freaking out I probably try 1 Pinterest recipe every weekend (when I am not creating one of my own) – same with workouts, though these tend to be forgotten and I do my own routines. I am in love with hairstyle and fashion pins too, gives me inspiration and ideas what to do with my crazy hair

  8. I’m -horrible- when it comes to actually making the things I pin. It’s better with crafty ideas, but recipes? I think I’ve only ever made 2 or 3. Maybe being able to transfer them over to a board of things I’ve made would help motivate me? Who knows :roll: I’ve actually been slacking on Pinterest in general lately… I don’t think I’ve had a good hardcore pinning session in months, but the upcoming Christmas season is making me want to get lost in the black hole

  9. I am trying to get better about actually trying the things I pin! I pin tons of recipes and then when it comes time to make something, I go to all the trouble to get my cookbooks off the top shelf!! Sheesh! And then when it comes to workouts, instead of using my pinned ones, I make up a routine myself. I am getting better though!

  10. Hehehe sweat like a pug. The mint chocolate protein pancakes sound really interesting–and they look good for St. Patrick’s Day, hah. I remember being freaked out in grade school when they served green food…green milk, green bagels, green everything. *shudder* And that chocolate cake. Oh my wow.

  12. I love Pinterest!!! It’s actually what led me to blogging. I’ve made a lot of recipes but now since I’ve gotten better at developing my ow recipes i use it more for inspiration

  14. I try a lot of the workouts I pin but not nearly as many as the total amount lol! I haven’t had any pinterest fails because I think you can tell by the website whether or not it’s going to work… Like most of Jess’s recipes… I know they’re going to be DAMN good!
    I love energy drinks. Le sigh… I drank probably one of two every day for like 3 years. It was bad.

  16. Haha- I love that first cartoon. Hilarious and so true. I always get sucked into Pinterest and lose track of time. I’ve probably made like 10% of my collections. Not bad, but I could do better. I really need to try some of Heather’s pancakes!! Yum.

  17. Ohh girl I have a newfound respect for you- WELL DONE on actually following through! Although I am not much of a pinner, I am a serial bookmarker- there are so many recipes that need to be made yet the list only keeps getting longer…clearly I need to take a page out of your book. I love that card deck idea- so cute and easy! I’m normally not the biggest chocolate cake fan but Heather’s version looks too.die.for- YUM!

  18. i love the idea of a things i’ve made board. i have a things i’d actually make board for recipes. it’s SO necessary. i found previously that i abandoned my pinterest because i was pinning recipes i would never actually try to make vs realistic ones on the same board. i’d lose track of the ones i truly wanted to make an effort to recreate in the future. i enjoy pinterest more now that i focus on realistic pins…and of course still some of those i would never make.

    • I definitely have those too – the recipes I would actually make versus the ones that I’ll drool over but probably won’t actually do…but its fun to look through the other ones too!

  21. Aww I was surprised to myself on your list amongst these delicious cakes! Ha I’m glad you like the workout though – it’s always cool to hear who has actually tried them.

    Pinterest is a black hole. I bust out laughing at that meme because that’s exactly how I felt… only it was two weeks of my life where I pinned everything! I haven’t been on in about a month – it’s just a massive time suck and I don’t need that on top of blogs, instagram, FB, oy!

    I’m only getting the hang of pinterest slowly, I have made most of the recipes I’ve pinned but definitely going to tackle more once these exams are done.

    I actually don’t mind V (not sure if you guys have it) its nicer than red bull and MUCH nicer than monster. Although eating it in a cake may be abit over the top!

  24. I have a board for recipes I’ve tried too and I love it – it always feels so good to move a recipe from one of my various recipe boards to that board. It’s such a feeling of accomplishment!

    I go through phases with trying stuff from my Pinterest… sometimes I’ll go for weeks without making anything and other times I’ll make like 5 recipes in one week.

    Some of those recipes you’ve tried look awesome! I love hearing what Pinterest recipes have been a success for other bloggers because it helps me to avoid the failures. I’ve had a few from Pinterest. The latest was coconut flour pancakes… I’ve tried like 3 different recipes and they NEVER work.

  27. I love this idea! I am the worst about pinning for hours and not even trying them.. What a waste. I’ve noticed that if I take a screen shot of a pin I am more likely to try it because I actually remember it! I tried the vodka gummy bears, but unfortunately my friend and I got into them after the bar one night and I don’t remember if they were good or not!

  29. I just went and checked out how many pins I had after you wrote your number and saw I have over 4,400! Holy crap. That’s both cool and weird at the same time haha. So yes, I am with you on the whole not making/doing everything I pin thing, maybe 2% of all that stuff. THank you for putting this list together know, it’s good to see what actually works out (or doesn’t!) with the infinite number of recipes, workouts, crafts, etc that are out there

  30. Awww, yay!! So happy to be one out of your 61!! And omg, you make me feel so much better about my overloaded boards! I have 46 boards and 1670 pins…I am proud to say though that I made a “Make…Eat…Repeat” board last year for my favorite recipes, BUT my “Make This NOW!” board is hanging on to nearly 100 pins! Obviously I have my work cut out for me, don’t I? Oi!
