Hello there!

Is it just me, or does it really not feel like a Thursday today? Mid-week holidays always through me off….(and the fact that I spent yesterday painfully hungover is probably adding to it too, because that doesn’t typically happen on a Wednesday). But, I’m cool with the fact that it’s almost the weekend.

Also cool – I’ll be heading up to Burlington today to meet up with some awesome ladies for dinner at Lettuce Love Cafe (formerly Kindfood). I went here with Chelsea over the summer to see if it lived up to her praise, and…yes. yes it does. I’m excited to be going back!

But, a quick look at some of my favourites in December, both in my life and on the blog.

In December, I was…

Reading:

Intuitive Eating by Evelyn Tribole and Elyse Resch.

I got this book about 5-6 years ago, and I always try to reread it at this time of year. We all know that diets are thrown at us left right and center post-holidays, so I use this book as a reminder to just avoid all that nonsense. Boo diets!

Watching:

Dollhouse.

After watching Joss Whedon’s Firefly a few months ago, Eric and I both decided to give this old series a try. We got through the first season, and we really liked it! It’s a little slow the first couple of episodes, but around mid-season, it really picks up. I’ve heard that season 2 is better than the first, so I’m excited to get started on that.

Listening to:

I’ve actually really been liking Lorde’s album, Pure Heroine. Yes, I’m horribly behind on popular music, but I love it when I’m in the mood for something mellow.

Eating:

Christmas cookies. Nutella.

Cookies Probably need to eat a little bit less of those this month…

Drinking:

Hot chocolate. Definitely becoming my warm beverage of choice!

  1. I have yet to bust out the hot chocolate…. I’ve been sticking to tea. Craziness, I know.

  3. All I’m eating is Nutella. Buying a 2lb tub of it for Christmas was a bad idea :S

  4. I’m still having a hard time looking at cookies after my Christmas cookie coma, but I do want to dive right into that marshmallow-laden hot chocolate. I’m still on the kombucha and ginger tea train though — dratted stomach is still recovering from the holidays I love Christmas, but I’m definitely looking forward to some more normalcy — if only it would warm up!

  5. I’ve never heard of Dollhouse before. I’ve been looking for some new TV since ALL of my favorite shows are on hiatus right now. I will check it out! Thanks for the suggestion.

  6. I’m not kidding when I say it took me a half hour to figure out what day it was when I woke up this morning. I could have looked at my phone but instead I chose to obsess over it hahaha I need to lay off so,e cookies too. Not all because I eat dessert every night anyways but I have been a little crazy with them lately. They’re just so good not to eat, especially with ice cream I just tell myself that’s what the holidays are for. As for hot chocolate, you know that’s my favorite! The only time I left the house most days this week was to go to a gas station for it…

  7. I’ve been digging Lorde as well. I don’t like “Royals,” but I like almost all of her other songs on the album, esp. “Tennis Courts.” I really like the deep voice guy in it. It makes me feel cool when i listen lol

  8. So glad to comment on you blog again! I’ve missed reading your posts!
I’m going to have to check out Lorde. I’m always looking for some good music, and I’m not always into some of the more recent, high speed tunes. I generally prefer something a little more relaxing.
You CANNOT go wrong with hot chocolate!! Especially with marshmallows. My parents got me some peanut butter chocolate chip marshmallows for Christmas, and I think that they are going to be the most amazing hot chocolate topper.

  10. Totally agree with you about holidays in the middle of the week throwing me off, especially when you still have to work haha. I thought yesterday was Sunday for most of the day! I need some new tv shows to check out since my usuals are all on their break…i’ll try to see if I can find this or firefly! I am excited for the return of downton abbey on Sunday though! Should be good

  11. I’m reading the From Left to Write book this month and hating it! Glad I got some emails from the group agreeing with me because I thought I was the only one. What are your thoughts?

If you like the Lorde album get the Haim album…so good!

  12. I’m looking for a new series to watch since my favorite shows are on hiatus until February (boo, lame!). I started watching Gossip Girl and thought it was good but I wasn’t hooked… I tried American Horror Story and didn’t make it past the second episode. It wasn’t my cup of tea. Let me know if you find any or have any recommendations!

  15. The holidays in the middle of the week throw me off, but I kind of like it. We spent the entire day before NYE on connecting flights (with delays) to get home from Chicago, and I’m STILL lagging from the whirlwind. I have to try those brussel sprouts soon- just picked up a fresh bag today!

  17. Best thing about December? Probably finally knowing I need to be bigger than my ED and ACTUALLY changing my ways. Everybody ALWAYS raves about hot chocolate but I personally hate it… Am I doing something wrong?

  18. Dollhouse looks like Arthouse porn. I’m guessing it isn’t, but…

Currently, I’m watching old episodes of ‘The Middle’- mindless humour. I need to get onto some books, seeing as a bought a kindle purely to do that.
Arman @ thebigmansworld recently posted..He thinks/She thinks- Changes Part 1- CareersMy Profile

    • haha, it isn’t Arthouse porn, I promise :-p but really, how can you wrong with Eliza Dushku? You’ve seen Bring It On, haven’t you?

  19. I’ve been debating getting that Intuitive Eating book or not. But I think this just pushed me to do so.

TV shows I’m currently watching? Too many! Big Bang Theory, Parenthood, The Bachelor (starts next Monday and it’s my guilty pleasure), American Horror Story, New Girl, How I Met Your Mother, Girls, and It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia.

    Thank god for DVRs!!

  20. The cookies – I’d take them. Somehow I didn’t really get to eat a lot of them – the ones in the office are always gone before i know it, my colleagues are like animals.
My December favorite is the weather! Hardly any below zero’s and so much sun. Totally my taste.

  21. I definitely cracked open the IE book a few times over the holidays as well! Definitely a good reminder to just stay true to ourselves and not let ourselves be bombarded by all the diet-talk. It killed me the other day when I saw a good friend post on Facebook that she had “cheated” on her diet over the weekend, but was getting “back on track” come Monday!

Oh and just so you know, you’re getting a long-overdue broccoli bombing…loved all the Christmas recap pics! Looks like you had one HELL of a holiday! Congrats on the Jimmy Choos (I would totally break my neck) and omg, the pug pics slayed me…the one with him in the Santa hat with his tongue sticking out? Priceless!
