Ohmygod it’s April! That means Spring now, right?!

Fortunately, we actually hit around 10 (50 degrees) yesterday and it’s supposed to happen again today. Hopefully, that’ll get rid of the last of the snow.  But since we’re into a new month, let’s take a look back at what I was up to in March, shall we?

I was…

It Starts With Food(img source)

So, with everyone on the Whole 30 and Paleo bandwagon, it only made sense to read the book before forming an opinion. And honestly? I’m not convinced. I could talk a lot about why, but I’ll just say that I won’t be doing a Whole 30 or giving up grains anytime soon.

Watching:

Game of Thrones (img source)

Season 4 of Game of Thrones starts on Sunday! So of course, Eric and I have been re-watching season 2 and 3. People that watch it, can we all agree with the above statement?

Listening to:

Apparently, I’m still in a pop-punk thing.

That video just cracks me up. I went through a big Mariana’s Trench phase a few years ago and it’s still my happy music.

Eating:

Apparently, the slight rise in temperatures has given me mad ice cream and froyo cravings.

Ice cream So I can only imagine how much of the stuff I’ll be eating when it’s sweltering out…I’m fine with that though Wink

Drinking:

Cider!

Somersby Definitely my alcoholic drink of choice right now. I tried Alexander Keith’s cider over the weekend – not bad! Somersby is still my absolute favourite though.

Love and Affection

While it’s been a tough month, there’s definitely been some silver linings and I try to get to this last step in healing my body. Fingers crossed I start seeing some positive signs this month!

Have a good one!

  1. Love the song!! Cheered my up
I have done the Whole30 and I am still not convinced. So I can only support your choice to stick to grains, cider and Ice Cream
It is very warm and sunny around here since beginning of March and I am beyond happy about it – it clearly is what I need!!

  2. How dare you not try whole30? You are so mean.

Hai. I loved your personal posts this month, but omitted from commenting on them both in case people thought I was perverted lol. I think March for you, after reading your blog for a long time now, was one of eye opening experiences- and embracing them. I can’t wait to see how things in April go for you.

    • I know, I’m kind of a horrible person :-p And I appreciate the thoughts! I’ve definitely got my fingers crossed.

  3. I can’t believe March came and went! My favorite part was a small extended weekend trip I took to visit some friends I hadn’t seen in a few years. Where I am, it seems like Spring has finally emerged from the dark wraths that was winter this year. Warmer weather and rain, rain, rain! BUt its better than snow and means summer (and ice cream season) are right around the corner!

  4. March was definitely a month where you kicked some ass and showed people how amazing you really are <3 I know it's tough, but it's not forever and it's more than worth it in the long run

As for me, my favourite moments of March definitely included my trip to Hawaii… although it seems like forever ago! And you'd better believe I'm looking forward to S4! I didn't manage to catch up on S3, so I'm wondering if I can binge watch the entire thing in the next few days. Hmmm…

  5. I’m not hopping on board with Whole30 or Paleo any time soon either. I mean, never say never but for now I’m saying never haha. I had froyo for the first time in awhile this past weekend. …definitely blaming it on the warmer weather! PS-my fingers are crossed for you!

  6. YES! So excited for GoT! Is it Sunday yet?!

I hope April is the month for you to start seeing some good changes. I know it must be frustrating, but hang in there!

Some of my favourite moments in March were reuniting with my best friend who was in Australia for 6 weeks, making a spontaneous trip to Waterloo and spending the day with JZ on one of my days off, and seeing some of my old roommates this weekend!

  7. Finally some warmer weather! We got up to 60 yesterday and I felt like sunbathing! I did a bunch of research on paleo for a school project and concluded there’s no real science behind it so I won’t be jumping on the bandwagon either. You had some really awesome posts this month

    • that was my biggest issue with the book – they would only source 1 or 2 studies for each section, compared to 1000’s of studies disproving them.

  8. Spring lasted for all of about 2 weeks here. Now it’s in the 80s and if it were anywhere else it’d be considered “summer.” Then again, there’s a saying that there’s only two season in Houston: summer and slightly-cooler-than-summer.

I started reading It Starts With Food…and then I got really fed up with it, hah. I understand that it works for some people but I just can’t get on board the Paleo train…

  9. I’m totally with you on the Whole30 program. I was definitely not all that impressed either. It kind of seems like it’s just another fad.

YES to seeing signs of spring! The dandelions are starting to pop, there’s buds on the trees and the weather is definitely starting to warm up. SO exciting!!!

  11. We didn’t get any snow this winter, and it was 22 and sunny today so it well and truly feels like summer is on its way! Sorry to rub it in

I never did a whole 30, but I have done Paleo obviously. I just find the whole thing so freaking difficult – I don’t understand why people would willingly cut out such major food groups if they don’t have any reason for doing so. I have a severe reaction to dairy but seem to tolerate grains okay, so you can damn well bet I’m keeping them in my diet!

    • that makes sense to me – eliminate things if you have negative reactions to them, but I don’t think applies to the vast majority of people!

  12. I think my favorite moments of March were all basketball related. You can’t go to the college I went to and not worship the basketball team… it’s impossible to not get sucked in! And girl I am right there with you – warm weather = more ice cream. We are having a *beautiful* 3-day streak of weather here so I am finally getting my garden finished!

    • confession: I don’t think I’ve ever watched the entirety of a basketball game :-S And nice! I need to go out looking for a few little planters for my balcony in the next couple of weeks.

  13. Has it been a month already since Atti’s birthday!? Goodness, this thing called time! You’ve had quite the..eventful (my brain has gone to sleep, hence failing to pull out a more appropriate term) month, with its testing moments in there. And you’ve come out stronger . March had its great points for me in the fact that I’ve realized how ‘natural’ eating..and honoring my hunger has become .

  14. I’m not on the paleo train… I do like the idea of a reset (as I’m currently doing that), but for me its about cleaning out the system and breaking some bad habits. Don’t take my grains or I will cut you.

  16. I read it starts with food and it was a great book. Lots of good information.

I also did a Whole30 and it really changed the way I look at food. Paleo isn’t for me, but I stick to a lot of the same principals, like where I source my food.

    • I would argue that the book had good theories, but I don’t think they were necessarily backed by science – most of the studies they cited were incredibly small, and I think would require more research to be able to definitively prove the correlations they were researching. I do agree with the idea of getting people to eat more ‘real food’ however!

  17. I am eating a bunch of ice cream lately too! Mmmm!

  18. omg is it sunday yet?!?!?!!?!?! Can’t wait! Wanna come over? Bring Atti. We’ll eat ice cream and root on Aria!

  19. Oh my GOD, I am loving that song/video…hilarious! Never heard of these guys until now but you better believe I’m about to stalk them on iTunes! Thanks girlie! And seriously…seriously…do you think the cable company would just let me buy HBO JUST for GoT?! I’m officially through season 1 and officially HOOKED! All the blood and gore was a little overwhelming at first, but I’ll have you know I watched the last two episodes without covering my eyes ONCE! Haha!

    • MY PARENTS JUST GOT HBO. I maaay start making it a habit to be over there on Sunday nights…and glad to see that you’ve drank the GoT Kool-Aid! you’ll only get more addicted from here!
