Hi lovelies! How was everyone’s weekend? Mine was on the busy side, but I got to spend tons of time with family, which is obviously awesome. So, a quick photo recap for you:

I made Kodiak Cake‘s Powercakes for dinner Friday night with butter and real maple syrup. It was pretty much perfect – and the added protein meant that I wasn’t running to the kitchen for a snack an hour later.

Lots of pug cuddles.

Pug Cuddles

We maaay have missed each other when I was in Utah last weekend.

It’s a little embarrassing how much I cried during this movie.

You should really, really see it though.

We also got together with Eric’s brother and sister in law, who were in town this weekend. But, I forgot both my phone and my camera. Fail.

Giant sushi platter of amazingness:

Eric and I shared this for dinner Saturday night. This is why Asian grocery stores are amazing – I got this for $14.

Sam and Dad

I got to spend Father’s Day with the best Dad out there – mine, of course I’m working on inheriting that green thumb of his…and his handyman skills. He built that garden, including that rock wall going across the front.

Enjoying warm weather the best way I know how:

Mmm…cider. (he also built that fountain).

Cute puppies:

Toys are distracting, apparently.

Father’s Day dinner:

AKA giant plateful of food. Salad, asparagus, bread, baked potato, BBQ chicken.

Ice cream sandwich

I love being able to perfectly nail a craving. Yum.

Even though it was Father’s Day, he ended up giving me something:

Tripod A tripod! He bought a new one, so I got his older model. I can’t wait to break it out and pretend that I know what I’m doing

And finally, a little sneak peek at a recipe coming your way tomorrow:

White Chocolate and Blueberries

It’ll be a good one

Have a great Monday!

<— Has anyone else seen The Fault in Our Stars yet? What did you think?

<— How was your weekend? What did you get up to?

<— Favourite drink to have outdoors in the summer?

  1. I had a cider on Saturday night- although it was wayyyyy too sweet. I am skeptical of trying sushi from Australian grocery stores….not sure how fresh they are- and ironically, they are more expensive than the stores! Sangria is a summer classic. Lot’s of sangria.

    • Too sweet? No such thing And this grocery store’s sushi isn’t super high in quality, but it’s cheap and good for a quick fix.
  2. Good food + good company sounds like the right combo for a perfect weekend! With the weather heating up, I’ve been favoring Rose as my choice of drink. Another summer favorite is sangria…especially the alcoholic-drowsed fruit at the end ;)! My weekend involved a few meals out, afternoon high tea with a few friends, a movie day and a night out with on Saturday!

  3. It seems like everybody watched The Fault in Our Stars this weekend. Or at least I did, too. Despite what I expected I didn’t cry much throughout the largest part of the movie but made up for it during the last few minutes. The whole cinema was filled with sobbing noises and red-eyed girls. I was skeptical if the movie would be able to live up to the book but while different it did. The friend I went with hadn’t read the book and thought the movie was awesome, too.
The best dad in the world – read: mine – needs to rub off his green thumb on me, too. Is it embarrassing that I can’t even keep a basil plant alive?! Don’t answer that question. At least my orchids are magically still in bloom.

    • I hadn’t read the book in about a year, so it felt new to me. I was really happy with it! And that’s definitely something, those are supposed to be the hardest to keep alive!
  4. I still need to read that book before I see the movie! I bet I’ll cry too – I cry so easily in movies. I stumbled on the Notebook on tv on Saturday and I started blubbering after only 2 minutes of watching it haha.

My weekend involved dinner with JZ, checking out the Sound of Music Festival, going out with some of his friends, and going to the Rise Toronto Expo on Sunday.

    • Soooooo I didn’t cry watching the Notebook. Like I barely teared up. And I think there were three different moments of TFIOS where I cried. So all I can say is…bring kleenex. And read the book! So good.
  5. Looks like you had a great weekend! I would love a tripod…well to be honest I would love to get a nice camera first that required a tripod lol. My weekend was pretty low key and I had to work both days, but thats OK!

  6. Gah! Now you’ve given ME a craving for an ice cream sandwich, and it’s not even 7 AM But seriously… how freaking good are those things? It’s ridiculous. For the summer drink, I’m going to have to go with sangria, which didn’t make an appearance this weekend But that’s okay because the food I had at my parents’ BBQ more than made up for it… Grilled chicken, baked potatoes, grilled peaches, some kind of salad, and a no-bake strawberry cheesecake made by yours truly. Omg… I had to roll myself home.

  7. Sounds like a busy weekend, indeed, but fun nonetheless! My weekend was super busy as well. This past two days just flew by. Most of it was spent with family though, so I’m certainly not complaining! And we had some awesome weather, so we got to be outdoors a lot too!

  8. Tripods can make SO much of a difference in pictures. Whenever I’m shooting anything remotely official (like, orientation week photos or random side headshots), I have to have a tripod. (But I usually borrow because investing in a good one is expensiveeee.)

Also, I’ve been meaning to go to an Asian supermarket for a while now, but it’s always so much easier to just go to my local grocery store because that’s half a mile away and Chinatown is a 30 minute drive away… sigh.

    • well, now that I have a tripod, the next step is figuring out how the hell to really use it…(I think I figured it out?) And I know what you mean! I keep trying to tell myself to go to the farmers market about 20 minutes away, but I keep ending up at the grocery store.
  9. The English answer for favourite summer drink would be Pimms! So delicious but I can only handle one or two – I’m a cheap date I spent my weekend in Paris, so it doesn’t get much better than that! I am epically jealous of your sushi platter. Sushi is a rarity in London, so it is far from being cheap.

  10. My tripod is such a godsend!!! It takes up way too much space but it’s a game-changer with photography!

  11. Mmmm cannot wait for that recipe tomorrow! Those chocochips are quite the tease Your dinner sounds soo good. You’ve put me in the mood for a baked potato now haha. Mm and my fav thing to drink outside in the summer besides water is a light wheat beer or margarita…nothing says summer like those two drinks to me

  12. Sounds like such a lovely weekend! I could definitely use some of your Dad’s skills – the only plant that doesn’t die under my hands are orchids. Strange I know, but it seems they like me
And I love that you got the tripod! I have one myself and I have no clue how to use it, but I do it anyway. I swer it works

  13. I miss going to the movies! Canmore doesn’t have a movie theater so I’d need to drive to Calgary to catch one. I’m excited to see The Fault in our Stars though – loved the book.

Fav summer drink = margarita!!! With lots of salt & fresh lime. mmmm
