Hello everyone! I hope your last weekend in September is going fabulously. I just wanted to pop in and share the weekly groceries and meal plan, and what I did for workouts last week.

Although I already enjoy going grocery shopping, I was extra excited when I saw this upon entering Loblaws yesterday:

Squash

A squash sale = happiness. Of course.

But, the groceries:

  • mini assorted potatoes
  • spinach
  • 3 squashes: baby hubbard, kabocha, and red kabocha. I know what I’ll be eating a lot of this week…
  • baby carrots
  • bananas
  • bell peppers

Weekly Meal Plan

 

  • Saturday: out for date night
  • Sunday: steak, roasted baby potatoes and salad
  • Monday: shrimp stirfry with udon noodles and stirfry veggies
  • Tuesday: leftovers/easy meal
  • Wednesday: tuna melts
  • Thursday: Pork chops with applesauce, roasted cauliflower and sweet potatoes
  • Friday: Jessica’s easy chickpea curry

It should be a tasty week!

And as for last week’s workouts…it’s pretty clear that I’m having fun trying all the different classes at my gym. All of my workouts last week were hour-long classes.

  • Sunday: bootcamp
  • Monday: hot yoga
  • Tuesday: off
  • Wednesday: Spartan workout + aerial yoga
  • Thursday: kettlebell
  • Friday: off (although, a ton of walking around Toronto!)
  • Saturday: circuit class

Ohmygoodness. Workout class obsessed right now.

  1. Hahaha so much squash, I love it! I’ve never had a baby hubbard squash before, so you’ll have to let me know what it’s like!

    Um yeah, I would definitely say walking around Toronto was a workout. Especially when I had to sprint down the streets of Toronto to make the train on time!

    This week I’m planning on making Mexican rice bowls, ratatouille, and a beet, chicken, and goat cheese salad. Who knows if things will actually go according to plan though.

  2. Stop taunting me with the squash! I haven’t been able to have one in the whole 5 days that I’ve been on the road, and you don’t even know how bad my withdrawals are. Seriously… one of the biggest things I’m looking forward to about heading back home is that I’ll be able to roast up a squash And what makes it even worse is that I’ve come across SO many roadside markets loaded with squash, but I can’t take any home with me. So yeah… on the menu this week is lots of squash

  3. OMG that squash picture looks like heaven…that’s definitely the HLB equivalent of a “kid in a candy store”! I’ve never tried baby hubbard squash but I’m intrigued to hear what it’s like. The only squash which I’m not the biggest fan of is spaghetti squash- I found it a bit too mushy for my liking! The only meal I have planned for this week is dinner tomorrow night: Teriyaki tofu stir fry with brown rice!

    • Sounds like a pretty fabulous dinner to me! And I need to experiment more with spaghetti squash – the cheese covered varieties would probably make it better for me :-p

  4. I am always a huge fan of grocery shopping because I love browsing all of the aisles looking for new foods. And I just bought my very first kabocha so I’ll be roasting it up this week, too! What’s your favorite way to eat it, personally? I see people make it savory + ketchup or sweet + almond butter, so I’m not sure which way to go!

    • I feel like I’m in the minority with this one, but I tried roasting one up with coconut oil and cinnamon (as a lot of people do) and I didn’t like it as much as I usually do. I usually use olive oil, salt, pepper, and a bit of cumin – and it’s still awesome with almond butter. Let me know what you end up trying and what you think!

  5. Sam!!! So much fun to finally meet you this weekend Can’t wait for our next blogger meet-up!
    Never tried hubbard squash but I did buy some delicata squash yesterday that I am interested to try out. Normally I look forward to grocery shopping but for some reason this weekend was a bit of a struggle…glad I got it done though!

    • It was awesome meeting you too! Next time I’ll make sure I don’t have to duck out early And I’ve never heard of delicata, I’m curious to hear what you think of it!

  6. I absolutely love grocery shopping IF I have time. If I’m insanely busy, it’s just frustrating. And nope, no Baby Hubbards for me! I’m not a big squash eater. So dang hard to prepare…

    • Haha not going to lie, working at home makes the whole chopping and roasting process a lot easier, because I can literally do it whenever :-p

  7. I found squash on sale, but no kabocha yet :(. I was very sad :(.

  9. I used to hate grocery shopping, but now I buy myself a fancy coffee drink and that makes it more enjoyable since I have something to look forward to!

  10. Aerial Yoga? That is awesome! I have always wanted to try that. I saw a similar squash sale at sobeys and was super happy. I had a hard time trying to decide what to buy because there are just so many varieties!

  11. I cannot wait to hear in 2 weeks time that you’ve acquired a beta carotene glow And lol… orange cauliflower. Because you need more orange in your life. Never even heard of that squash- I’m interested to hear how it tastes!

    I made a batch of oatmeal pumpkin muffins which turned out great so my carb breakfast source is all sorted..however I have oatmeal chilling in the fridge ready to have fried eggs dumped on it tomorrow morning….

    • Haha I just cannot get enough of the orange food, apparently. I’m surprised I haven’t noticed the colour change yet! And you will love it

  12. We had a lot of squash on sale this weekend too but there wasn’t any kabocha! But there was one there that they called a sugar squash that looked like kabocha….I wonder if it’s the same thing now that I think about it. I could probably just google it! Jealous of all of your fun workout classes!

  13. if i had a new gym i too would be going crazy with alllll the workout classes! enjoy it! thanks for the link to that easy chickpea curry. easy recipes that use beans (aka cheap!) are something i am collecting in prep for when i move out of my parents’ place!
